Overview

SEO Meta Tag Inspector is a Chrome extension that analyzes metadata from the currently active webpage when the user opens the extension popup.

The extension operates locally in the user’s browser and is designed to help users inspect SEO-related page metadata quickly.

Data Access

When the extension popup is opened on an HTTP or HTTPS webpage, the extension may access the following information from the currently active page:

  • Page URL
  • Page title
  • Meta description
  • Canonical URL
  • Robots meta tag
  • Viewport and charset metadata
  • Meta refresh metadata
  • Open Graph metadata
  • Twitter Card metadata
  • Page heading structure (H1, H2, H3)
  • Declared and on-page keyword signals
  • Structured data (JSON-LD) summaries
  • Hreflang and custom meta tags
  • Link audit data (internal/external link URLs, anchor text, rel attributes)

This information is read directly from the webpage’s HTML structure.

The extension operates only on standard HTTP and HTTPS webpages and does not access browser internal pages, such as chrome:// or extension pages.

Data Collection

SEO Meta Tag Inspector does not collect personal data for advertising, analytics, profiling, or resale.

The extension does not transmit inspected page data to any external server operated by the developer.

Local Data Processing

All metadata analysis is performed locally within the user’s browser after explicit user action (opening the extension popup).

No webpage content is transmitted outside of the browser by the extension.

Local Storage

The extension may store limited data locally using chrome.storage.local to support product functionality.

Stored data may include:

  • User-configured warning threshold settings
  • Recent inspection history

Inspection history entries may include:

  • Page URL
  • Page hostname
  • Page title
  • Warning count
  • Limited snapshot information used to restore a previous report

This data remains stored locally in the user’s browser profile and is not transmitted to the developer.

Inspection history remains available until the user clears extension data or removes the extension.

User Control

Users may remove locally stored extension data at any time by clearing extension storage through their browser settings or by uninstalling the extension.

Permissions Used

The extension requests only the permissions required for its functionality:

  • activeTab – access metadata of the currently active tab after user action
  • scripting – run the inspection script in the active tab
  • storage – store local settings and local inspection history

Third-Party Services

The extension does not use third-party analytics services, advertising SDKs, or remote code.

Data Sharing

SEO Meta Tag Inspector does not sell, share, or transfer inspected webpage data to third parties.

Security

Extracted metadata is rendered using safe text rendering methods (textContent).

The extension does not execute webpage-provided HTML or scripts.

Compliance

SEO Meta Tag Inspector complies with the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies and only accesses webpage data necessary to provide its inspection functionality.
